The purpose of this blog is to more easily facilitate gospel discussions and help all those who participate become more diligent in studying their scriptures. The way this works is that a question or thought will be posted every Sunday and will be the topic of discussion for that week. We invite all those who are interested to please share your thoughts. However, postings must include credible sources (scripture references, Ensign, Mormon Doctrine, etc) in order to be posted, and must be tagged with the appropriate labels. Aubrey is in charge of moderating all comments-they will not be posted until she approves them.

Giving to the Homeless

I was reading in Mosiah 4, specifically vs.17-26. I have never felt like it was wrong for me to not give handouts, food, or rides to homeless people for a number of reasons. First, I pay my tithing and a generous fast offering so I've done my duty, right? Second, the world is a much less safe place than it has been in the past and I don't feel like it would be safe to take a hitchhiking stranger somewhere in my car. Third, there are supposed to be government programs that should take care of these people (whether they are effective or not is a different problem). So the question is this-Is it wrong for me to continue in this way, or should I give money/food/rides to those homeless individuals I see?
